Emptiness Again

mayor_samwise This is without doubt, the most searing, bare-bones expression of grief and regret by Howlie or anyone I can think of. Beware when listening to it! You will cry and check on ALL your friends! We don't know which friend he means but it could be about anyone, any time we let that human compassion slip, however briefly. It brutally nails the random, uncaring way that life strikes us down. Evan's singing here is also the closest to a crying jag that you can get...beautiful as well as heartbreaking.

lyrics

Emptiness again; never see you smile
You've got emptiness again
Been there for a while
You've been calling every day
I like to make sure my friend's okay
Saw your razor blade

Booze and sleeping pills on your bathroom table
I saw booze and sleeping pills
Not sure if you're stable
You've been drinking every day
I like to make sure my friend's okay
But I don't have time today

And I really want to know
What you do when you're alone

Dressed myself in black
Off to see your family, so I dressed myself in black
Off to see your burial

I lost my friend today
I didn't make sure my friend's okay
